Exposure to child abuse and neglect can cause toxic stress that can disrupt early brain development and harm the nervous and immune systems.
There were 10,458 reports of child abuse or neglect and nearly 5,000 substantiated victims of child abuse or neglect in Southwest Ohio in 2016. Nationally about 676,000 children were victims of child abuse or neglect in 2016.
Stable and supportive relationships and safe environments are essential to prevent child abuse and neglect.
Children need to know that they are special, loved, and capable of following their dreams.
